This page summarises how I handle returns, refunds, commissions, shipping, and the basic terms of buying from this site. It's plain-English, not a long legal document. If anything's unclear, write to me.
Prints are sold separately through Saatchi Art and follow their returns and shipping policies.
Returns & refunds, original paintings
You have 14 days from the day you receive the painting to change your mind, in line with UK consumer law. To return a piece:
- Get in touch within 14 days of delivery to let me know.
- Send the painting back in the original packaging using a tracked service. Return shipping is the buyer's cost.
- Once I receive the painting in the same condition it left the studio, I'll refund the purchase price minus any outbound shipping. Refunds land on the original payment method within 5 working days of receipt.
If the painting arrives damaged, that's on me. See Damage in transit below.
Commissions
Commissions are bespoke, so the policy is different:
- A 50% deposit secures your slot and is refundable up until you approve the sketch. After the sketch is approved and I begin painting, the deposit is non-refundable.
- The 50% balance is paid before the painting ships. If you change your mind after the painting is finished, the deposit is retained but the balance is not charged, and the painting becomes part of my available work.
- Approved-sketch commissions are non-returnable once delivered (they're made to your brief). If something is wrong with the finished piece, colour drift, condition issues, anything that doesn't match the agreed brief, tell me and we'll resolve it.
Shipping & delivery
- Originals ship via Royal Mail Tracked or Special Delivery. UK shipping is included in the price; EU and international shipping is quoted separately based on size and destination.
- Commissions include UK shipping in the price. International shipping is quoted separately.
- Larger pieces ship in custom-built crates, which can add a couple of days to dispatch.
- Delivery times: typically 3 to 5 working days within the UK after dispatch; 5 to 10 days within Europe; 1 to 3 weeks internationally depending on destination and customs.
- I'll send you a tracking number when the piece ships.
- Customs duties on international orders are the buyer's responsibility.
Damage in transit
If a piece arrives damaged, contact me within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the packaging and the damage. I'll refund the full purchase price including original shipping. Damaged pieces can't be returned in the post; keep the packaging until we've discussed how to handle it.
Care of the work
- Hang oil and mixed-media paintings away from direct sunlight and radiators.
- Wipe gently with a dry, soft cloth. Never use water or solvents.
- Allow at least six months from completion before applying final varnish (relevant for very recent commissions only. I'll tell you if this applies).
Buying
- Prices are in GBP. International buyers see GBP at checkout; their card issuer handles conversion.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. Card details are never stored on my site.
- I retain ownership of the painting until full payment has cleared.
- Original artwork: copyright remains with me. You own the physical work; reproduction rights stay with the artist.
Cancellations & changes
You can cancel a non-commission order at any time before the piece has shipped, no questions, full refund. Once shipped, the returns process above applies.
For commissions, see the deposit rules under Commissions.
Disputes & governing law
I aim to resolve any concerns directly and quickly. If we can't, the contract is governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes fall to the courts of England and Wales.
