Commissions · 2026 Slots

A portrait painted for you alone.

I take a small number of commissions each year, enough to give each painting the time it deserves.

The work is figurative portraiture in oil and mixed media. The likeness is recognisable. The surface carries its own weight. What you'll receive is something that looks like the person, and feels like them too.

On reference photos

The photo we'll work from.

I paint from photo references that we agree on together. Send a few options
in the first chat, phone snaps, family photos, anything that captures the
subject, and we'll pick the strongest one before any sketch is made.

Sharp focus and clear contrast matter more than studio polish. Blurry shots
and flat lighting don't translate to oil. If you're unsure which photo
works, send what you have and I'll tell you which one to paint from.

In their words

From the people who've commissioned a piece

Vivi painted Jessica and Romeo. I commissioned it as a birthday gift for Jessica. She has captured them both perfectly and Jessica was thrilled to receive it.

Amanda, UK · Jess and Romeo commission · Couple/horse portrait, 2025

Our personalities were fully captured in this picture as well as the moment you captured.

Dave, UK · Dave and Darina commission · Couple portrait, 2025

It was so perfect and such a special memory, thank you.

Phoebe, UK · Olive commission · Pet portrait gift, 2025

It came out perfect, it really is him. The depth of the brow above his eye, every tilt, completely right. I'd know this horse with my eyes closed.

Mila Costa Engmann, Brazil · King commission · Horse portrait, 2025 (translated from Portuguese)

Love the painting.

Trevor, UK · Trev and Claire commission · Couple portrait commission, 2025
Frequently Asked

Commission FAQs

What materials do you use?

Mostly oil and acrylic, often combined on the same panel. I sometimes layer charcoal, ink, pens, or small collage. I'm flexible on the surface. Wood panel, canvas board, stretched canvas, and aluminium are all options. We'll choose together based on the piece and what I have ready in the studio.

How much does a commission cost?

Small starts at £400, Medium at £650, Large at £1,100. The final quote depends on the size, the complexity, and how many people or animals are in the painting. UK shipping, sketch revisions, and materials are included. Framing and international shipping are quoted separately.

If you have a budget in mind, tell me. I'll be honest about what's possible at that level.

How long does a commission take?

Oil paintings need real time to dry between layers, so timelines stretch with size:

  • Small (head & shoulders, up to A4): 4 to 6 weeks
  • Medium (half-figure or A3 / 30 × 40 cm): 6 to 8 weeks
  • Large (40 × 60 cm and up): 8 to 12 weeks

Once we've agreed the brief I'll give you a date based on my current workload. If you need a faster turnaround, ask. I'll be honest about whether the slot is possible.

How do I commission a piece?
  1. Fill out the form below with your concept, a few reference photo options, and a rough size in mind. The first chat is free.
  2. I'll reply within 48 hours. We talk over the subject, the feeling, the scale, and pick the strongest reference photo together.
  3. A 50% deposit secures your slot. I send a sketch for your approval, with revisions until you're happy.
  4. Once the sketch is signed off I begin painting. You'll get progress photos through the underpainting and final stages.
  5. The remaining 50% is due when the painting is finished and ready to ship. Tracked shipping worldwide.
Will my commission arrive framed?

Unframed by default. If you want it framed, I can arrange it through my Manchester framer at cost, or send the piece with sizing notes so you can frame it locally. I'd usually recommend seeing the painting in person before you decide on a frame.

Is shipping included?

UK shipping is included in the price and sent tracked. International shipping is quoted separately based on size and destination. Larger pieces ship in custom-built crates, which add a couple of days to dispatch.

Can you paint me into your dystopian style?

Yes. My personal work is moving in this direction. A series called Womanoids, female figures inside a post-human, AI-mediated frame. For commissions, the likeness stays honest and the surrounding world can carry the dystopian mood. Tell me below who the portrait is of, and the feeling you want it to hold.
